138th Homecoming Celebration!  – Theme: “Power for a Game Changing Future”

Sunday, September 21, 2014, Gordon Memorial United Methodist Church will celebrate Homecoming and 138 years of ministry with worship services at 8:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

The Gordon Memorial congregation has been deeply rooted in serving God and the Nashville community for 138 years! These roots, planted so long ago have set the foundation of the church’s rich heritage and history of standing on the promises of God and witnessing throughout the community. This year’s homecoming celebration commemorates the past and starts a new chapter of the church’s history with new beginnings of “Power of a Game Changing Future”.

Nontombi Naomi Tutu, internationally renowned advocate for acceptance among all people and daughter of Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Nomalizo Leah Tutu, is the guest speaker for the 8:00 a.m. celebration.  Gordon Memorial member the Reverend Dr. Candace M. Lewis, Ordained Elder and founding Pastor of the New Life Community United Methodist Church, Jacksonville, Florida is the 11:00 a.m. speaker. Dr. Lewis also serves as the first Black female Executive Director of Path One, the New Church Start initiative of the United Methodist Church.

Vance P. Ross, Senior Pastor of Gordon Memorial, states, “We are blessed and elated to have both Dr. Candace Lewis and Naomi Tutu, two ground breaking leaders, as our Homecoming preachers. Ms. Tutu’s work is inordinate and her spirituality, leading all people to love and inclusion is the heart of game changing power.  Dr. Lewis’ mind and creative approach continues to forge new initiatives for the movement of creating new places for new people. These leaders will bless this ministry in wonderful ways. We look forward to a grand time and a filled house!”

All are invited to come and be part of a history and future that changes lives in Jesus’ name!  Both services will be broadcast live at www.ustream.comFor directions or transportation please call the church office at 615-329-2779.
